Computer Room Air Conditioning Replacement
Schweiger executed the removal of 32 and the replacement of 20 floor-mounted, ceiling-mounted, and console self-contained Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units within Network Equipment Rooms (NER). Exhaust ducts were integrated to accommodate additional spot coolers in the event of unit failure. Thorough commissioning took place, accompanied by an update to the existing Building Management System (BMS) to seamlessly monitor the new units. Roof-mounted condensers for the CRAC units were installed, overcoming project challenges posed by the proximity to a local airport and the need for extended crane reaches. Schweiger was able to solve the complications by staging the condensers in an adjacent parking lot and airlifting them onto the roof via helicopter. The installation and startup of units were strategically phased to ensure uninterrupted cooling for every room. Notably, all work was conducted during regular operating hours, with the exception of the helicopter operations, in a building that remained occupied throughout the construction process.
